While still a high school student, his IQ was measured at 148, placing him in the top 1 percentile in national academic exams. He scored over 900 on the TOEIC exam, which is an academic level of English proficiency. He says he learned English without private tutoring, just by watching the TV series “Friends”, which points to his high language intuition.
In middle school, he participated in poetry writing contests, some of which were published on small literary websites. He completed his university education in “Broadcasting and Entertainment” at Global Cyber University; at the same time, he continues his own research on art history.
Jin (Kim Seok-jin) - From Acting to Stage
Before joining BTS, Jin studied at Konkuk University's “Film and Theater” department, a prestigious acting school in South Korea. During his acting training, he focused on subjects such as diction, stage posture and gesture-mimic. The fact that he got into Konkuk University by his own effort shows that his exam performance and self-confidence were high.
After his music career started, he did not quit his school; he completed the academic process and received his diploma. He later earned a master's degree in advertising at Hanyang Cyber University, which shows his effort to develop his off-stage side.
SUGA (Min Yoon-gi) - Practical Intelligence, Technical Ability
During his high school years, SUGA excelled both in studies and in the music studio; one of his classmates, a teacher, said that he was a “silent genius in math”. He started using MIDI programs at an early age, indicating that his technical acumen was formed at an early age. In high school, his notebook of free verse poetry was submitted by his teacher to the school magazine, but he preferred to express it through music.
He studied “Broadcasting and Entertainment” at Global Cyber University, followed by a master's degree in advertising at Hanyang Cyber University. He is known to show numerical precision in his own productions; for example, he is known to place some bass rhythms with millisecond calculations.
J-Hope (Jung Ho-seok) - Disciplined Student, Action-Oriented Mind
J-Hope's grades were consistent throughout his academic life, but the real difference was in his sense of rhythm and movement analysis. Before studying dance, he choreographed school performances and taught dance to his bandmates. His high school literature teacher emphasized that his written compositions were “not mechanical but structured”.
Later, he entered Global Cyber University to study media, where he excelled in presentation techniques. While pursuing his master's degree in advertising, he took extra courses in stage language, which shows his intention to support his performance academically.
Jimin (Park Ji-min) - Art High Miracle
Jimin entered the modern dance department at Busan High School of the Arts with first place; the exams at this school are very difficult both theoretically and physically. In addition to dance classes, he received high grades in anatomy and performance psychology. One of Jimin's teachers said that he was “the rare student who brings empathy to the classroom with his level of emotional intelligence”.
He received a special prize from the judges in a choreography analysis competition held during his school years, demonstrating his interpretive intelligence. Later, like the members of BTS, he transferred to Global Cyber University and continued his education there.
V (Kim Tae-hyung) - Observation Ability and Aesthetic Memory
Before joining BTS, V studied at Korea High School of Arts in Daegu, where he also studied classical music and played the saxophone. At school, he was noted for his visual memory; a music teacher noted that he could repeat short melodies he heard with the right tone. Although his attention span in class may seem short, he is known to show extraordinary focus when it comes to the sensory or emotional side of things.
One music teacher said that V was a rare “cross learner”, a description specific to people who can use visual and auditory information simultaneously. After graduating from Korea High School of the Arts, he also studied media at Global Cyber University, then went on to graduate school at Hanyang Cyber University.
Jungkook (Jeon Jungkook) - Multiple Intelligences and Adaptability
Although Jungkook was unable to attend regular school during high school due to performance schedules, he showed, in the words of his teachers, “extraordinary motivation in distance learning.” He was initially interested in animation drawing and wrote and illustrated short manga scripts in middle school. In high school, he took online courses in video production, photography and music production and applied this knowledge within the group.
Integrating his off-stage skills with his education, he took on the editing, angling and sound design of his own short video projects. After studying media at Global Cyber University, he started his master's degree in advertising.
Group Learning Dynamics and Mental Roles
BTS members are quite diverse in terms of learning style; RM is the analytical leader, SUGA the detail-oriented strategist, J-Hope the practitioner, Jimin and V the intuitive connector, and Jungkook the observer-stimulator. When a new scene set-up is worked out in group rehearsals, RM is the fastest memorizer, while Jungkook or J-Hope is usually the first practitioner.
When writing lyrics, RM and SUGA focus on language structure and rhythm harmony, while Jimin and V suggest words that provide emotional intensity. RM and Jin are the most “linguistically gifted” members of the group, while J-Hope and Jimin stand out when it comes to “expression through body language”. When new technological equipment or props are introduced, Jungkook is usually the one leading the experimentation process; his learning style is experimental and speed-oriented.
SUGA extends his technical intelligence to non-musical areas by giving suggestions on the placement of the sound system in stage setups. RM's expressions when translating are cited as an example of “cultural intelligence” as they involve not only grammar but also cultural context. J-Hope suggests changes in stage choreographies to take into account the physical limitations of other members; this is a combination of social intelligence and empathy.
Jimin acts as a “silent mediator” in group communication, as someone who is quick to sense emotional states. V is one of the members who expresses his aesthetic intelligence the most with his instinctive command of natural color balance and compositional rules in visual editing.
Learning Attitudes after Academic Life
Not all members stopped learning even after graduation; some enrolled in new departments through open education, others individually pursued foreign languages, art history, music theory. RM collects museum catalogs and art books, takes notes and, as he puts it, “learns to respect other ways of life.”
Jungkook actively follows YouTube channels on behind-the-scenes techniques and directly reflects what he learns in the group's content. Jin is constantly researching gastronomy and writing down recipe notes in a notebook, showing his attention to detail. SUGA is testing the latest versions of beat making software and has built his own technical library.
